Water at Work  - B2.1

Squad: Vitality

Bottles with their colored coded bottoms

Partners: Sascha Brouwer, Thomas Jannodet-Girardot, Jin Smeding, Tristan te Velde

This is when I met the Vitality Squad for the first time. I was very interested by the squad description, because it was so close to my beliefs. As a group, we chose Vital Young Adults-Lab as a subject, which was focusing on finding ways to prevent burnouts with young adults. We created Water at Work early on in the semester, which gave us a lot of opportunities to explore the best version of it.

Water at Work is a smart water drinking system that encourages connecting with fellow employees. The employees of a company are each week randomly put into teams. Every time someone fills his/her bottle a part of the art piece of that team will appear on the canvas next to the water dispenser. This creates a competition between the teams to finish their part of the art piece the fastest. However, to show the complete piece of art every team is needed. This makes it a more friendly competition.

Learning Points:

Coming to the vitality squad I thought we were going to be working on getting people more active. When it turned out it, we were going to work on health on the work floor I was a little bit disappointed. However, this is how I learned that vitality is much more than only being active. In this project I developed my expertise about User & Society a lot. We were always in close contact with our user and we would get a lot of feedback from user tests. Analyzing the information of these user studies is why I also developed my Math, Data and Computing skills, although I did not realize it at the time.

This project pushed me more towards my vision. I realized here that health has many more aspects than only being active. This project does work towards a better overall and mental health. However, this part of health in office environment does not interest me as much.
